BOOK EXCERPT:

We Were Warriors Once is a military-political suspense novel. It chronicles the careers of four officers from the 1960s to the 1990s. Military promotions are based on an up-or-out systemyou either progress within specified time frames or you get left behind. Many officers who retire from their military careers at the Pentagon go through the revolving door and return in short order either as defense contract employees or civil servants. Not infrequently, they return to the same office where they worked before retiring. The same holds true for many political appointees. Men who once worked in Washington go off for a period to high-level assignments with defense contractors and return to influential positions in government. These revolving doors can sometimes have unintended negative consequences. President, and former five-star general, Dwight D. Eisenhowers warning against the power of the military-industrial complex is well known. However, that complex is actually tri-foldmilitary, industrial, and political. We Were Warriors Once incorporates revised editions of two previously published novels, Duty and Character and Wrong Enemy, Wrong War, with entirely new material that plumbs deeper into the defense contractors influence on national defense policies. The officers who wear the uniforms of the United States armed forces are by in large extraordinarily dedicated men and women. But in the profession of war, sometimes even the best are tempted at times to stray from the straight and narrow.

Despite the high stakes, they were able to untangle complex problems quickly and keep calm under pressure. In this raw, adrenaline-filled narrative, Jake recounts, how, over the past 10 years, he's built the disaster response organization Team Rubicon, and seen the work provide a lifeline back to purpose for the heroes among us. Not only do these intrepid volunteers race against the clock to aid communities after Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Harvey, COVID-19, and hundreds of other disasters; they also fight for something just as important--each other. Vietnam Helicopter Crew Member Stories

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book is a collection of fascinating short stories, photos, and documents furnished by the heroic and courageous men that served as air or ground crew members in Vietnam. The chopper units were located throughout Vietnam. During the course of the war, we lost at least 5,139 helicopter aircrew members and at least 588 ground support crew members. In fact, the true number of helicopter air and ground crew members killed or missing in action will probably never be known. Those crew members accounted for a large percentage of all the enemies killed during the war. Those courageous men were American heroes then and will always be American heroes.

Lover Fighter Writer

BOOK EXCERPT:

Here I sit on top of my world, not a broken, pathetic girl crying over some whatever, or a man who lost his temper, saying cruel things to hurt, or worse - to see myself as something less ... Brigitte Narcise has lived a rich life full of experiences, lessons, joys, and heartache, yet refuses to take herself too seriously. Now within her first collection of alternative free verse inspired by Rumi, Edgar Allan Poe, and even Dr. Seuss, Narcise lyrically reflects on her vast experiences and insights inspired by her own reawakening. Narcise explores a variety of themes while sharing diverse verse—some full of unexpected rhymes and wordplay, and others that are deeper and more complex—that poetically express her experiences as a lover, fighter, and writer through love notes from the universe, the human experience, and life’s many-faceted transitions. Lover, Fighter, Writer is a collection of poems that reveals a glimpse into a warrior’s reawakening as she learns, loves, and transforms into all she is meant to be.

In the sixth book of the Chronicles of Mattias Series, Mattias Denson, King of the Seven Realms, is once again confronted with new characters and adversaries looking to attack his kingdoms, this time through new unconquered territory. New figures emerge as the invaders are unmasked; the invaders have no love for the colonists along the coast of the eastern Mar, or for the rule of law under the Covenant. They are slavers and ruthless conquerors looking for gold and Lesti inventory. Pagan, immortal and Lesti leaders send representatives to Mattias Denson, who now occupies New Nimbus, once the domain of Lord Seth and his son Prince Xerxes. They have left the Kir Oasis and have traveled west in search of Old Nimbus, the kingdom in the clouds. Mattias is soon inundated with new people and their stories of who they are, what they want, and what they want from him. But are they true to anything beyond themselves, and can these leaders be trusted? Problems develop in the far west as well as the far east; his family and his armies are fragmented and unsteady. Alana Q introduces new peoples and characters to the mythology and lore of the Chronicles series which began with The King of the Northern Fells. As the world of Mattias Denson and his wives grows and matures, so too does Mattias as he faces his world burdened by the tasks given him by the gods and challenged by his military and family. New challenges are as frequent as are the betrayals and new characters who pose them. Two armies approach. What will happen to the Seven Realms when the tsunami of evil finally hits?

Hodgson explores the ways identity, development, and gender have interacted to shape the Maasai into who and what they are today.
