BOOK EXCERPT:
This book has been a life-time quest to understand why God created man and what God is after. It all started in March 1946 when I accepted Jesus Christ as LORD of my life. For sixty-two years I have diligently studied the Bible and sought to find out and to understand "What Is God Up To?" In December 2004, the LORD awakened me in the night and gave me the outline for the book, "GOD HAS A PLAN AND A PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE," which was published in February 2006. On the morning of May 31, 2006, while in prayer, the LORD gave me the outline for this book that endeavors to answer the questions: WHAT IS GOD UP TO? WHY EARTH? WHY ETERNITY? I was to prepare a comprehensive study of the Biblical "prophets" and to correlate all they "prophesied" in a chronological order that would be related to Earth's history and eternity. Oliver E. Summers received a call to the ministry in 1946 when he was a young teenager. His ministerial training began in 1950 when he attended Southern California Bible College (name changed to Vanguard University of Southern California) and graduated with a B.A. degree in New Testament. He attended seminary at Berkeley Baptist Divinity School (name changed to American Baptist Seminary of the West) and graduated with a M.A. degree in New Testament. He also attended University of California at Los Angeles and completed many courses in business administration. His pastoral ministry included pastorates in Oregon, Texas and California. He has served in the Methodist Church, American Baptist Church, Assemblies of God Churches and several non-denominational churches. He also spent time in the financial industry and served as President and Chief-Executive Officer of several independent community banks. For the past twenty-four months he has been in retirement preparing this book.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The most popular source of theological hope for American Christians is that of Jurgen Moltmann. Preachers, teachers, and lay people reflect Moltmann's influence, with their hope in a this-worldly eschatology and a suffering God. However, an exclusive reliance on that hope deprives the church of crucial resources in the face of global economic, environmental, and military crises. This book explores Moltmannian hope and considers its costs before looking elsewhere for additional contributions, from Thomas Aquinas's theological virtue of hope to nihilism and beyond, in order to encourage the church to sustain and practice hope in Jesus Christ, our only hope.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Liturgy at its best has the power to transform the community of the faithful. The liturgies in this book focus on lament, especially the lament experienced by communities of people facing environmental degradation and loss. It is often observed that lament has dropped out of much Christian worship in favor of praise and thanksgiving, yet the honest emotion voiced in such prayer remains an essential component of authentic, transformative engagement with God. Each liturgy is a complete service of worship based on a specific theme and may also be used as an anthology of prayers and litanies. God’s Good Earth in Crisis is offered in the conviction that worship is the most powerful means the Holy Spirit uses to equip us to live faithful lives serving God and caring for God’s holy people and sacred earth.

BOOK EXCERPT:
God's world was created "very good," Genesis chapter 1 tells us, and in this book Jon Garvey rediscovers the truth, known to the Church for its first 1,500 years but largely forgotten now, that the fall of mankind did not lessen that goodness. The natural creation does not require any apologies or excuses, but rather celebration and praise. The author's re-examination of the scriptural evidence, the writings of two millennia of Christian theologians, and the physical evidence of the world itself lead to the conclusion that we, both as Christians and as modern Westerners, have badly misunderstood our world. Restoring a truer vision of the goodness of the present creation can transform our own lives, sharpen the ministry of the church to the world of both people and nature, and give us a better understanding of what God always intended to bring about through Christ in the age to come.
