BOOK EXCERPT:
A much-needed book for parents about themselves. In the tradition of Dr. Benjamin Spock, who in 1946 revolutionized parenting with the famous opening words of his classic child-rearing guide, "You know more than you think you know," child and family therapist David Anderegg reminds contemporary parents that "parenting is not rocket science. It's not even Chem 101." So why do those of us with children worry so much? Whether they're thinking about school violence or getting a child into the right college, American moms and dads are a pretty worried crowd. Even though most American families are safer and healthier today than at any other time in our history, studies show that parental worrying has, in recent years, reached an all-time high. In Worried All the Time, Dr. Anderegg draws on social science research and his more than twenty years' experience as a therapist treating both parents and their children to clarify facts and fantasies about kids' lives today and the key issues that preoccupy parents. In the process, he offers a comforting and useful message: Parents are suffering needlessly -- and there are things they can do to take the edge off and focus on what their children really need. In Worried All the Time, Dr. Anderegg identifies some of the causes of worry in contemporary American families, including fewer children, exaggerated fear of competition, and overblown media reports of children at risk. Anderegg calls this the "tabloidization of children" and critiques the fashion for media portrayals of "children in crisis." One at a time, he takes on the hot-button issues of our times: • the use of day care and nannies • overexposure to media • school violence • overscheduling • experimentation with drugs and looks a little closer to see the facts and the fantasies beneath the hysteria. Calling himself a "crisis agnostic," Anderegg persuasively argues that needless worry has negative consequences for families and for our culture as a whole. The cardinal rules of good parenting -- moderation, empathy, and temperamental accommodation with one's child -- are simple, he says, and are not likely to be improved upon by the latest scientific findings. Anderegg helps parents to understand the difference between wise vigilance and potentially crippling anxiety and to gain the confidence to trust their own common sense.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Difficult times, trials, and tribulation are part of living in this world. However, God has provided a way for us to enjoy peace as a part of daily life. We can choose either to allow ourselves to be burdened with worry and anxiety or to live in the peace and joy the Father intended. In Be Anxious for Nothing, Joyce Meyer teaches how to draw on the peace of God in the midst of negative circumstances instead of responding with restlessness, fear, and apprehension. She reveals the nature of the peace Jesus describes in John 14:27—a peace unlike anything the world knows—and how it can fill every area of your life. Joyce Meyer explains why we should and how we can: Trade our anxiety and worry for peace and joy Develop a childlike attitude of faith Rest in the arms of the Lord. You will develop a deeper, more meaningful relationship with your heavenly Father as you understand how He cares for you. By following the leading of the Holy Spirit, your life will be filled with unlimited hope and will overflow with His peace, so you will finally Be Anxious for Nothing!

I Am White: Eagle Woman Flies with Raven shares the biography of Rita Makkannaw, who immigrated from Denmark to Canada at a very young age with her family. After enduring a sexually charged incident with her father, she ran away from home at age sixteen. She entered into an abusive marriage, but managed to obtain an education, career, and raise two children in spite of her troubles. Then in 1987, at age forty, Rita began to have many new spiritual experiences, discovering in the process a completely new world. She met and fell in love with a Cree First Nations Medicine Man, Raven Makkannaw. With her new relationship, she began a twenty-year apprenticeship in spirituality, native history, and philosophy. Raven and Rita devoted their lives to bringing understanding and harmony to the modern world. Their message was that the old teachings were as relevant today as they were for hundreds of generations past. Human nature has not changedit is only that we live our lives in very different ways. I Am White presents the memoir of a woman who immersed herself in Cree culture after finding the love of her life. It is a story of a life transformed by love, spirituality, and acceptance.

Not only did he want her cold body, but he also wanted to take away her heart! Cold panic, chaos, she never dreamed that she would encounter this kind of misfortune. However, the worst was yet to come. The parents who valued boys and girls did not love each other. They quarreled endlessly and broke off all ties. The warm, jade-like husband of the same person actually wanted to send her to the owner's bed in order to get promoted. BOOK EXCERPT:
Written by two psychologists and experts in anxiety, The Worry Workbook provides powerful, evidence-based tips and tools to help you challenge your fears, build a tolerance for uncertainty, and find relief from worry. Are you plagued by persistent worry? Do you have trouble making everyday decisions? Are you a perfectionist exhausted from trying to meet unreasonably high standards? Do you procrastinate important tasks? All of these problems could be caused by the same thing: an intolerance for uncertainty in the face of new challenges or unpredictable outcomes. Everyone worries from time to time—it’s unavoidable. But chronic worrying, anxiety, and fear can also take a hefty toll on your health, happiness, and relationships. If you’re someone who worries about what might happen if you try something new, you aren’t alone! Many people lose sleep over “what ifs”—leading to difficulty making decisions, avoiding new situations, trouble with relationships, and missing out on life’s adventures! So, how can you overcome this fear and start living your best life? While there are many self-help books and workbooks that tackle worry and anxiety, The Worry Workbook is the first to provide guidance for overcoming the fear of uncertainty. With this guide, you’ll find concrete exercises and step-by-step instructions to help you identify your fear of uncertainty—whatever it is—and challenge it using powerful cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) practices like self-assessment, self-monitoring, and behavioral experiments. Chronic worrying can affect all aspects of your life. This book will help you target your fears and worries, tolerate uncertainty, and trust your own judgment and abilities in the face of doubt.
