This proceedings volume presents recent theoretical and practical advances in operational research (OR). The papers focus on a number of key areas including combinatorial optimization, integer programming, heuristics, and mathematical programming. In addition, this volume highlights OR applications in different areas such as financial decision making, marketing, e-business, project management, scheduling, traffic and transportation. The chapters are based on papers presented at the 13th Balkan Conference on Operations Research (BALCOR). BALCOR is an established biennial conference. The selected papers promote international collaboration among researchers and practitioners, with a particular focus on the Balkan countries.

With 140 contributions by authors from 19 different countries, XVIII International Symposium of Organizational Sciences – SymOrg 2022 successfully sets the high level for future conferences. The topic of SymOrg 2020, “Sustainable Business Management and Digital Transformation: Challenges and Opportunities in the Post-COVID Era”, attracted researchers from different institutions, both in Serbia and abroad. This year, more than 300 scholars and practitioners authored and co-authored scientific and research articles that had been accepted for publication in the Book of Abstracts. As SymOrg is traditionally at the intersection of academy and business, we believe that this year’s meeting will bring about many in-depth discussions, contribute to prospective partnerships, and build stronger business and academic networks. We also believe that meeting will contribute to the exchange of knowledge, research results and experience among industry experts, research institutions and faculties, which all share a common interest in contemporary organizational sciences. These proceedings consist of 30 selected research papers based on results presented at the 10th Balkan Conference & 1st International Symposium on Operational Research (BALCOR 2011) held in Thessaloniki, Greece, September 22-24, 2011. BALCOR is an established biennial conference attended by a large number of faculty, researchers and students from the Balkan countries but also from other European and Mediterranean countries as well. Over the past decade, the BALCOR conference has facilitated the exchange of scientific and technical information on the subject of Operations Research and related fields such as Mathematical Programming, Game Theory, Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis, Information Systems, Data Mining and more, in order to promote international scientific cooperation. This book presents a set of new, innovative mathematical modeling tools for analyzing financial risk. Operational Tools in the Management of Financial Risks presents an array of new tools drawn from a variety of research areas, including chaos theory, expert systems, fuzzy sets, neural nets, risk analysis, stochastic programming, and multicriteria decision making. Applications cover, but are not limited to, bankruptcy, credit granting, capital budgeting, corporate performance and viability, portfolio selection/management, and country risk. The book is organized into five sections. The first section applies multivariate data and multicriteria analyses to the problem of portfolio selection. Articles in this section combine classical approaches with newer methods. The second section expands the analysis in the first section to a variety of financial problems: business failure, corporate performance and viability, bankruptcy, etc. The third section examines the mathematical programming techniques including linear, dynamic, and stochastic programming to portfolio managements. The fourth section introduces fuzzy set and artificial intelligence techniques to selected types of financial decisions. The final section explores the contribution of several multicriteria methodologies in the assessment of country financial risk. In total, this book is a systematic examination of an emerging methodology for managing financial risk in business.
