Hear The Word Of The Lord

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

In Hear the Word of the Lord: The Lectionary in Catholic Ritual, Martin Connell offers an in-depth understanding of the Roman Catholic Lectionary for Mass. He presents a theology of the Word of God that is grounded in both ancient and ongoing liturgical practices of hearing and proclaiming the Word in the Church. Steeped in the history and composition of the New Testament, Connell traces the development of the Lectionary from the letters of St. Paul to the current Lectionary, demonstrating the way in which a listening assembly serves as an essential component of both our experience and our understanding of Scripture. In addition, Connell presents a comprehensive look at the structure of the Lectionary and its role in the liturgical year.

The Word Of The Lord At Mass Understanding The Lectionary

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Word of the Lord at Mass: Understanding the Lectionary is an inviting introduction to the book from which Catholics hear Scripture proclaimed throughout the year. It explains what a Lectionary is, how it developed over time, how our current Lectionary grew out of the Second Vatican Council and differs from previous ones, and how, in harmony with the liturgical year, it presents Bible selections that unfold Christ’s Paschal Mystery. This book will enrich liturgical ministers and anyone interested in the role of the Bible in Catholic life.

The Original Ending Of Mark

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Although traditionally accepted by the church down through the centuries, the longer ending of Mark's Gospel (16:9-20) has been relegated by modern scholarship to the status of a later appendage. The arguments for such a view are chiefly based upon the witness of the two earliest complete manuscripts of Mark, and upon matters of language and style. This work shows that these primary grounds of argumentation are inadequate. It is demonstrated that the church fathers knew the Markan ending from the very earliest days, well over two centuries before the earliest extant manuscripts. The quantity of unique terms in the ending is also seen to fall within the parameters exhibited by undisputed Markan passages. Strong indications of Markan authorship are found in the presence of specific linguistic constructions, a range of literary devices, and the continuation of various themes prominent within the body of the Gospel. Furthermore, the writings of Luke show that the Gospel of Mark known to this author containedthe ending. Rather than being a later addition, the evidence is interpreted in terms of a textual omission occurring at a later stage in transmission, probably in Egypt during the second century.

Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit

BOOK EXCERPT:

One book or three books: My main interest is to help the deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people understand the Word of God and to apply it to their own life with Gods help. It also gives us, as well as the hearing people, encouragement, help, and inspiration from the Word of God and tells us to receive the Word of God by faith. My main reason of writing the Trinity to show the example of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit as one and believe that God is One. I also write Trinity for various reasons and put down Bible verses to help match the Old Testament and New Testament that speak the same thing to show them the Bible in fact is real. Gods Word is very real. I write the main points because I have heard in the past about their belief, their teaching, and their faith in God, and I am willing to write down what they say and that the Bible has all the answer to our need and purpose. I have studied the Bible for forty-five years, seeking answers and being able to explain better from Gods teaching, from Gods Word. Whenever I hear people talk about their faith in God, I write down Bible verses to help inspire their life positive. It would help all of us to grow in grace through our Lord Jesus Christ. He has the answer to all our problems. My main point is to help them know that they can be saved through Jesus Christ by faith in him alone. Only in him shall we be saved. Be blessed!
