This book examines regional monetary cooperation as a strategy to enhance macroeconomic stability in developing countries and emerging markets. Developments in East Asia have progressed rapidly in terms of regionalism since the 1997 crisis. In this Research Topic, we aim to understand the dynamics of business, economic, and financial issues - including potential structural changes after the COVID-19 in emerging markets and advanced economies. This Research Topic’s main goal is to provide different aspects and consequences of economic and financial issues in emerging markets and advanced economies after the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, we welcome interdisciplinary, empirical, and theoretical papers (panel data studies, survey studies, and time-series analyses) focusing on the business, economic, and financial issues after the COVID-19 crisis. Diplomacy with Chinese characteristics is a series of new ideas, concepts, models, and practices put forward by China as a big country with increasing influence in the world in the new era to meet the needs of its own and world development. Its connotation and extension are different from previous diplomatic ideas and practices, and more different from diplomatic ideas and practices of other major powers in the world today. It represents the future development direction of the world. The special world significance of new thinking and new path will be embodied with the practice of characteristic diplomacy, which will bring structural impact to the world.

Rational exploitation and utilization of natural and environmental resources is more difficult in cross-border areas than in areas under the jurisdiction of a single authority. Moreover, cross-border resource management is constrained by the number of independent stakeholders involved. The primary reasons for this come from the uneven spatial distribution of production factors as well as the non-cooperative cross-border mechanism resulting from two or more political regimes. Faced with cross-border pollution, policymakers tend to be shortsighted, emphasizing the direct costs and benefits of their own regional development at the expenses of their neighbors. In addition, research institutions and international donor agencies have not paid full attention to the problems common in cross-border areas. Consequently, cross-border area studies remain a marginalized, easily forgotten topic. The main objectives of this book are to clarify how natural and human systems interact in cross-border areas under conditions of uncertain, imperfect information and, in some circumstances, irreversibility; to identify and, where possible, quantify the various impacts of the 'border' on the environmental activities in cross-border areas; to evaluate the costs and benefits of cross-border cooperation in the exploitation and utilization of natural and environmental resources; and to recommend measures in improving national and international legal and regulatory mechanisms for resource exploitation and environmental protection in cross-border areas.

Yoshimatsu explores the causes and implications of the diverse degree of institution-building in East Asia by examining two processes of initiating and developing multilateral institutions in five policy areas: trade, finance, food security, energy security, and the environment.

It was in 1967-68 that I wrote the book Economic relations between "the two Europes" and the socialist international cooperation, published in 1970. Its main message may be summed up as follows: 1. Between economic development and underdevelopment exists a state which stabilizes under capitalist economic-and world economic-relations and con stitutes a particular peripheral zone around the developed cores of the world economy. It is a historic feat of the European socialist countries to have broken out of this peripheral situation and to move towards the complete liquidation of their historical backwardness. 2. The position of the group of European socialist countries in world economy, and within it, in Europe, is determined by the asymmetry which is at the same time the most characteristic feature of their domestic development: namely, that the "traditional" extent and manner of their participation in the international division of labour no longer corresponds to their development requirements, their having become much more developed and exacting. At the same time, their full participation in the division of labour of the highly developed countries is still hindered-beyond the deliberate and spontaneous repressive efforts of the West-by the fact that their forces of production have not yet reached an advanced state. This is what makes East-West economic relationships even more con tradictory and constitutes a menace to every effort made in this direction. 3.
