BOOK EXCERPT:
Adult learning systems play a crucial role in helping people adapt to the changing world of work and develop relevant skills. Community Education and Training has been brought forward as a possible way to foster adult learning in South Africa, especially among disadvantaged groups. South Africa has a relatively large group of adults who have low levels of education and skills, and limited opportunities for skills development. This report looks at the potential role that Community Education and Training could play in South Africa, how the system should be financed, how to align the training offer with community needs, and how to ensure high-quality provision. The report provides international good practise examples and suggests actions that South African stakeholders might consider to develop the Community Education and Training system.

BOOK EXCERPT:
I found that the principals adopted an integrated approach to school improvement that supports both the core processes of teaching and learning, and deals with some of the external social challenges that affect the student's well being and development. The support programs brought benefits to the schools and their surrounding communities that range from improved student health to employment opportunities for parents and other community members. These findings support the thesis that many South African schools will not be able to effectively address the many socio-economic challenges to schooling unless they operate within a broader network of community partnerships that support students' social and cognitive development. This study contributes to a deeper conceptual understanding of the "community school" in South Africa. It also provides an expanded understanding and definition of school leadership that has implications for preparing, training, and supporting current and aspiring school leaders.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The socioeconomic exclusion of marginalized individuals, including youths and adults, persists in society, leading to inequality, poverty, and lack of fulfillment in life. The digital divide continues to widen the gap between those who have access to education and those who do not, particularly in the adult education space. Promoting the Socio-Economic Wellbeing of Marginalized Individuals Through Adult Education is a research book which offers a comprehensive solution to the problem of the widening divide. This book provides a collection of original research and best practices in adult education that focus on integrating ICT into teaching and learning. This approach is particularly relevant in the current era of the digital divide, where access to education is crucial for socioeconomic development. Moreover, the book emphasizes the importance of decolonization and social justice in the era of digital migration, a crucial step toward creating a fair and just society. Edited by Dr. Sampson Tawiah, a leading scholar in the field of adult education, this book offers theoretical and scientific research reports that benefit postgraduate students, scholars, policymakers, and education providers in general. The book covers a wide range of topics, including sustainable economic change, leadership and management within adult education, and quality assurance in adult education, among others. This must-read book is ideal for anyone interested in creating a fair and just society, and is an essential resource for anyone working in the field of adult education. The integration of ICT into adult education practices is a major focus of the book, offering a practical approach to bridging the digital divide and improving access to education for marginalized individuals.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This examination graphically illustrates the conditions that make dreams of a better life for all virtually unrealizable in rural areas of South Africa. Through the voices of rural people themselves, this study tells not only what the problems surrounding education are but also what can and should be done when the South African government launches its offensive against poverty in rural areas. Rigorous and qualitative, the text is an overview of the need of great numbers of people for the opportunities and capabilities that education can provide for their futures. It also shows the existing situation of many impoverished populations worldwide and illustrates that poverty and inequality continue where such issues are not addressed.

BOOK EXCERPT:
It is vital that we decolonise community education and development – learning from the past in order to challenge current discrimination and oppression more effectively. In this book, Marjorie Mayo identifies ways of developing more inclusive policies and practices, working towards social justice for the future. She also tackles the pervasive influence of the ‘culture wars’ undermining work in communities, including the denial of problematic colonial legacies. Inspired by movements such as Black Lives Matter and labour solidarity, the book includes case studies from the US, UK and the Global South, outlining the lessons that can be applied to community education and development training and practice.
