Recent Developments and Innovations in the Sustainable Production of Concrete covers the various aspects of sources, materials, and waste products in concrete production, innovation in materials-new technological developments, and the upgradation of existing concrete production systems. Importantly, it covers the so-called EEE aspects (Economy, Energy, and Environment), not touched by other books. The books also highlights the sustainability aspects of concrete production when recycled materials are added. Case studies are used to demonstrate the practical aspect of concrete production, including the machine learning approach. - Includes coverage of sources, materials, and waste products in concrete production - Provides an overview of the economic, energy, and environment aspects in concrete production - Shows how machine learning can be used in concrete construction

Nanomaterials can markedly improve the mechanical properties of concrete, as well as reduce the porosity and enhance the durability of concrete. The application of nanotechnology in concrete is still in its infancy. However, an ever-growing demand for ultra-high-performance concrete and recurring environmental pollution caused by ordinary Portland cement has encouraged engineers to exploit nanotechnology in the construction industry. Nanotechnology for Smart Concrete discusses the advantages and applications of nanomaterials in the concrete industry, including high-strength performance, microstructural improvement, self-healing, energy storage, and coatings. The book Analyses the linkage of concrete materials with nanomaterials and nanostructures Discusses the applications of nanomaterials in the concrete industry, including energy storage in green buildings, anti-corrosive coatings, and inhibiting pathogens and viruses Covers self-healing concrete Explores safety considerations, sustainability, and environmental impact of nanoconcrete Includes an appendix of solved questions This comprehensive and innovative text serves as a useful reference for upper-level undergraduate students, graduate students, and professionals in the fields of Civil and Construction Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Nanomaterials. Advanced Fiber-Reinforced Alkali-Activated Composites: Design, Mechanical Properties, and Durability covers various fiber types and their usage as a sustainable material as well as their influence on mechanical properties and behavior, including compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact and bond resistance. Their durability in different environments (seawater, magnesium sulphate, sulphuric acid, elevated temperature, corrosive) is also discussed. The book also outlines a variety of mix design and curing regimes for alkali-activated composites. The additive manufacturing of these composites is also covered. Different types of fiber-reinforced alkali-activated composites discussed include steel fiber-reinforced, carbon fiber-reinforced, natural fiber-reinforced, synthetic fiber-reinforced, and others. - Discusses different fiber types and their effects on alkali-activated composite materials - Includes coverage of compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, impact and bond resistance, and more - Investigates the durability of these materials, studying how they perform in seawater, elevated temperature environments, and under sulphuric acid attacks - Covers the shrinkage resistance, permeability and corrosion performance of these materials

Concluding the trilogy on geological materials in construction, this authoritative volume reviews many uses of clays, ranging from simple fills to sophisticated products. Comprehensive and international coverage is achieved by an expert team, including geologists, engineers and architects. Packed with information prepared for a wide readership, this unique handbook is also copiously illustrated. The volume is dedicated to the memory of Professor Sir Alec Skempton. Various definitions of 'clay' are explored. Clay mineralogy is described, plus the geological formation of clay deposits and their fundamental materials properties. World and British clay deposits are reviewed and explained. New compositional data are provided for clay formations throughout the stratigraphic column. Investigative techniques and interpretation are considered, ranging from site exploration to laboratory assessment of composition and engineering performance. Major civil engineering applications are addressed, including earthworks, earthmoving and specialized roles utilizing clays. Traditional earthen building is included and shown to dominate construction in places. Clay-based construction materials are detailed, including bricks, ceramics and cements. The volume also includes a comprehensive glossary.

This is a directory of companies involved in wood-framed building deconstruction, dismantling and reused building materials, with an emphasis on those that use, resell, and/or re-manufacture salvaged wood. Companies in this directory range in scope from those that carryout targeted building removals, such as historic barns, strictly for the purpose of harvesting the antique wood in these buildings, to companies that conduct residential and commercial demolition where the primary goal is building removal, and the recovery of materials is conducted opportunistically as a by-product. The bulk of companies listed are those that either salvage or sell building materials. For ease of use, the directory lists companies two ways, alphabetically by state and then alphabetically by company type, and alphabetically by company type and then alphabetically by state.
