Abstract: Three-day nutrient intake data (157 tables) are presented for about 36,100 individuals in the 48 US conterminous states, collected in the USDA Nationwide Food Consumption Survey from April 1977-March 1978. The data are organized to depict the intake contributions of 14 food groups to the intakes of 14 nutrients and calories, including their mean intakes, dietary nutrient densities, and a comparison of nutrient intakes to 1980 recommended allowances and 1965 intake data. Also included are: nutrient contributions from foods eaten in restaurants and from meals and snack foods; the effects of the frequency and time of eating; nutrient intake data for 22 sex-age groups in 4 income levels, 3 urbanization levels, for 2 racial groups, and the effects of seasonal variations; and nutrient intakes for special groups (infants, vegetarians, pregnant and lactating women).
