This proceedings contains the works of both experimental and theoretical aspects of high temperature superconductivity with special emphasis on the results obtained by nuclear methods (e.g. neutron scattering, μSR, positron annihilation and Mössbauer spectroscopy).

This volume will contain both invited and contributed papers which focus on the search for new high-Tc materials, characterization of their physical properties and microstructures, basic applications and the application of high-Tc superconductors.

This volume covers up-to-date ideas associated with the studies of high Tc superconductivity. Diverse theoretical points of view on the nature of this phenomenon are presented in the book. Experimental works discuss the results obtained in the studies of Bi and Tl superconductivity compounds as well as the thorough investigation of the different properties of 123 (YBaCu) compounds. Several articles are devoted to SQUIDs functioning at nitrogen temperatures and their application in research work.

The subject of the School is on the theory and phenomenology of 'classical' superconductivity. However, the selection and treatment of the different topics is done in the perspective of the new, 'high Tc'' materials, in order to clarify what is already contained in the BCS frame, and what is not.

Applications of superconductivity at the boiling temperature of liquid nitrogen continue to challenge physicists, materials scientists and engineers all over the world eight years after the discovery of high temperature superconductivity. The key to a solution of today's problems lies in the optimization of the defect structure in well-oriented oxide materials as well as in a fundamental understanding of the magnetic microstructures in the mixed state and how they are affected by the crystallographic nature ('dimensionality') of these materials. Fifteen invited overview lectures as well as approximately 150 contributed papers highlight the state of the art in this important field of superconductivity and review our current knowledge of critical currents in superconductors.

This symposium focused on new superconductors, electronics, magnet technology, energy and new applications. Recent discoveries in HTc, with transition temperatures over 90 K, have spawned a search for practical new applications. These applications extend from current uses such as that of the medical MRI to future applications, represented by research on new high-temperature materials. They span from microcircuit applications to the proposed SMES and fusion reactor applications.

Superconductors today constitute a major focus of activity in the development of high resolution detectors for many applications. This volume collects the papers of an international workshop on the basic theoretical and experimental issues involved in the interaction between particles and superconductors. It emphasizes the involved condensed matter aspects of non-equilibrium time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations, metastable superconductivity, quasiparticle and phonon lifetimes, and quasiparticle trapping, as well as low-noise pulse electronics, detector fabrication and low background cryogenics.

The development of high temperature superconductors is one of the major technological discoveries of this century. The impact and interactions from the scientific, technical, business and political aspects will be presented.
