BOOK EXCERPT:
From a woman who’s made her living researching breast cancer—and who lived through it herself—a personal yet practical guide to the medical and emotional facets of this life-changing diagnosis A leading oncologist at the University of California San Francisco, Dr. Pamela Munster has advised thousands of women on how to cope with the realities of breast cancer, from diagnosis through treatment and recovery. But her world turned upside down when, at forty-eight years old and in otherwise perfect health, she got a call saying that her own mammogram showed “irregularities.” That single word thrust her into a wholly new role—as patient, and not only that of cancer but of the feared BRCA gene mutation as well. Suddenly, she realized that being a true “expert” in a disease was far beyond the scope of her medical training, and that she had a lot to learn if she wanted to hold onto her precious life. Weaving together her personal story with groundbreaking research on BRCA—responsible for breast cancer and many other inherited cancers affecting both women and men—Twisting Fate is an inspiring guide to living with the uncertainties of cancer. With authority, insight, and compassion, Dr. Munster uses her voice to create a safe space for genuine healing and honesty in a world otherwise too-often dominated by fear—and she is living proof of how important it is to embrace all the twists and turns of fate.

BOOK EXCERPT:
There is so much happening as we the people of the world continue to evolve through COVID-19, with it, undoubtedly, being one of the most catastrophic events of modern times. This book is a continuation of my previous book titled; “Coronavirus: The Pandemic of the Century and the Wrath of God”. It recalls actual stories and memories thus far as mankind continues to evolve from the gloominess of COVID-19. This book represents my thoughts, views and various life events that I wish to share with you all. As a neurosurgeon and an anesthesiologist working the front lines within three major medical centers of the greater metropolitan area of Chicago, I have, without hesitancy, never closed my doors to my patients. My faith in our Lord Jesus and my abounding love to my patients, residents, and students has kept me going and strengthened my soul. During COVID and as the world coming out of COVID, it was a good time to flash back in marvelous works of our Lord, my patients stories and my achievements, performances, lessons learned. This book is centered in deep Christian rituals and meditations consisting of 115 chapters distributed over 12 sections touching on various topics that have passed through my mind during the evolution of COVID-19. These topics range from what I deem, critical COVID, all the way to vaccines, political COVID, and concomitant events as well as my personal memoirs, patient care, and the living stories of my patients. There is so much to share with you from April 2020 until the time of publication, so let us open the book and explore my time during COVID-19.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Psychoanalysis enjoyed an enormous popularity at one time, but has recently fallen out of favor as new psychiatric medications have dominated the treatment of mental illness and a new interest in the brain and neuroscience begins to dominate the theory as to the cause and cure of mental illness. How do we distinguish between the brain, the mind and the self? In his new book, Arnold Goldberg approaches this question from a psychoanalytic perspective, and examines how recent research findings can shed light on it. He repositions psychoanalysis as an interpretive science that is a different activity to most other sciences that are considered empirical. Giving clear coverage of the various psychoanalytic models of the mind and the self, Goldberg examines how these theories fare against neuroscientific evidence, and what implications these have for psychoanalytic clinical practice. The Brain, the Mind and the Self: A psychoanalytic road map sets up evidence-based, robust psychoanalytic theory and practice that will give psychoanalysts, social workers and practicing psychologists a valuable insight into the future of psychoanalysis. Arnold Goldberg, M.D. was born and raised in Chicago and trained at the University of Illinois, Michael Reese Hospital and the Institute for Psychoanalysis in Chicago. He is recently retired from the Cynthia Oudejans Harris MD chair, and Professor of Psychiatry at Rush Medical Center.
