This five-year report covering 2001-2006 examines how the California-Mexico Health Initiative works to improve the health of California's estimated 5 million Latino immigrants, and in particular 3.8 million immigrants of Mexican origin, including more than 1 million agricultural workers. The CMH initiative has a new name, effective April 2007, reflecting its broader reach: the Health Initiative of the Americas (HIA). Moving Beyond Borders examines the life and accomplishments of Julian Samora, the first Mexican American sociologist in the United States and the founding father of the discipline of Latino studies.
