BOOK EXCERPT:
The bible is full of mysterious ideas and metaphysical concepts that are complex enough to turn our ways upside down . Though , some schools of thoughts put their heads on the block to defend the accuracy of the holy book ; but influenced , at the same time by the spiritual presence of God and the traditional effigy of idolatry , that accuracy is flooded by a stream of doctrines , dogma , norms and traditions . So the author of this book has developed an elaborate rationalization which hold that the code of ethics embodied in the bible produced the humorous theories of nations and peoples that are designed to retard mens understanding of the scriptures . In keeping with the views of religious leaders , and through investigative observations of the scanty knowledge of many teachers of the scriptures , the author has found evidence of a combination of logic and legend .

BOOK EXCERPT:
Urban Legends of the Old Testament surveys forty of the most commonly misinterpreted passages in the Old Testament. These “urban legends” often arise because interpreters neglect a passage’s context, misuse historical background information, or misunderstand the original language of the text. With a pastoral tone and helpful explanations of where the error originally occurred, authors David A. Croteau and Gary E. Yates tackle legendary biblical misinterpretations of topics like the origin of evil or the purpose of Mosaic food laws, as well as common misconceptions about dinosaurs, or NASA discovering Joshua’s long day. Urban Legends of the Old Testament will help readers avoid missteps in the interpretation of key biblical texts while modeling interpretative techniques that can also be applied to other Old Testament passages.

BOOK EXCERPT:
In Paul’s Language of Ζῆλος, Benjamin Lappenga harnesses linguistic insights recently formulated within the framework of relevance theory to argue that within the letters of Paul (specifically Galatians, 1-2 Corinthians, and Romans), the ζῆλος word group is monosemic. Linking the responsible treatment of lexemes in the interpretive process with new insight into Paul’s rhetorical and theological task, Lappenga demonstrates that the mental encyclopedia activated by the term ζῆλος is 'shaped' within Paul’s discourse and thus transforms the meaning of ζῆλος for attentive ('model') readers. Such identity-forming strategies promote a series of practices that may be grouped under the rubric of 'rightly-directed ζῆλος'; specifically, emulation of 'weak' people and things, eager pursuit of community-building gifts, and the avoidance of jealous rivalry.
