In the midst of life and at the point of real happiness in the South of Spain, I am being separated unexpectedly in the cruelest way from my son and this dream life. A trip to Brazil ends in a nightmare of prison with my arrest due to a trap I ran into. For months, I live in a state of shock and cannot cope with the terrible prison conditions. I find out that I had been betrayed and have to realize that I have lost my son forever. My boyfriend Luciano lets me down as well as my own family. Only my father is full of grief, he passes away because his heart breaks knowing me being in prison. My pleadings not to tell him anything are being ignored. I decide to end my life, which is not a dignified life anymore in this hell of a prison where I am locked up in a small space with about 160 other women crowded together.

I gave birth to a second baby boy Anthony, he was just gorgeous. Anthony attended play group, school, and played sport. We were a happy family. At the age of fourteen he started using marijuana and slowly progressed into other drugs as well, it went on for about eleven years. While on drugs my son wasn't the same person anymore, drugs really changed him. About four years after abusing drugs my son was diagnosed with psychosis and schizophrenia, it's a mental illness that no mother wants to watch her child go through. My son dies and part of me died with him. It's March 2014; I'm still struggling to accept that my son is really gone. I can't see him anymore , can't touch him , can't hear him , can't hug him . But I will wipe the tears from my eyes, pretend to smile and show the world that I'm strong. But inside I'm dying, feeling the pain and loss like that first moment. I could crawl into the corner and spend each day there, slowly dying. Or, I could choose to make Wyland’s life a legacy. I’ve used humor to get me through every day since Wyland’s murder. I never thought of myself as a writer. I've always avoided putting my feelings on paper. Then, one day, I had an epiphany. I was going to write a book! The title came to me instantly. The memories flowed through effortlessly. I soon realized the narrator in my head all my life was guiding me to this point. I want to share my story hoping to bring awareness to those struggling in similar situations. Hopefully, in writing and publishing this book, it will reach other parents before a tragedy like mine unfolds, taking another innocent child.
