The key objective was to prepare a document to compile the ideas and suggestions clubbing all domains of sustainability in a comprehensive manner for better understanding. The document named as “Mission Sustainable India” (MSI) was to prescribe a road map for taking India to a sustainable development path starting on 15th August, 2022, the year of Platinum Jubilee year of our political independence. The chapters open up important discourses over structural changes needed in spheres like governance, bureaucracy, judiciary, communication, health, food, habitat, energy and water as well as other sectors such as transport, manufacturing, culture. And has contributions from experts in many fields. Poignant proposals in this document include the vision of reframing the Ministries in broad framework of 5 Ps with equal allocation of budget for each. And setting up of “Courts of Conscience” and self-learning facilitation centres for promoting sustainability.

The Volume-1 of the Vision Document on Mission Sustainable India Volume 1covered topics of Sustainable Citizenship, Governance, Bureaucracy, and Justice System. In the Volume -2, we covered additional topics such as Mass Media Communication, Sustainable Education, Sustainable Habitat, Sustainable Food and Health Systems. The Volume-3 of the Vision Document Mission Sustainable India Volume -3, takes forward the Mission to important technical topics of Sustainable Energy Sustainable Water Sustainable Transportation Sustainable Manufacturing and Production Sustainable Tourism Indian Association of Energy Management Professionals (IAEMP) has adopted the Vision Document on “Mission Sustainable India” and is leading the movement with an objective of involving all sections of society, economic sectors, environmentalists, institutions, citizens in India’s tryst with sustainability. The basic tenet of the mission is to ensure sustainable growth through an appropriate mix of Energy, Efficiency, Equity, and Environment. I request everyone to support the Mission.

It was hard to believe that something like Judiciary system, bureaucracy and governance need to be part of the effort to attain true sustainability for India. It’s not just about global warming or plastic pollution anymore! Thanks to “Mission Sustainable India” for helping me understand this in Volume-1 of the Vision Document. I’m now looking forward to Volume-2. I’m proud to be part of this great movement and encourage. The State Practice of India and the Development of International Law by Bimal N. Patel provides a critical analysis of India’s state practice and development of international law. This book gives readers an in-depth and up-to-date account of India’s external and internal threats in a deteriorating global security environment. It shows that while partnerships with some countries have strengthened, anxieties persist with others such as China and Pakistan. Similarly, India has not been able to cope with the challenges of internal security emerging from violence in Kashmir, insurgency in the north-east, to mention a few. Problems of global terrorism and global warming stare us in the face. Tensions between major powers, threats and counter-threats between major and middle powers, and international hotspots like Georgia and Afghanistan remind us that there is intense competition for strategic space. This volume presents a novel framework to understand urban climate co-benefits in India, that is, tackling climate change and achieving sustainable development goals in cities. It utilizes methods and tools from several assessment frameworks to scientifically evaluate sector co-benefits for informed decision making. The co-benefits approach can lead to significant improvements in the way societies use environmental resources and distribute their outputs.
