"Mrs. Oscar Hammerstein, so the story goes, once overheard someone praise "Ol' Man River" as a "great Kern song." "I beg your pardon," she said, "But Jerome Kern did not write 'Ol' Man River.' Stephen Morton was a friend of Sheraton Woodies, who also attended the Word of Life Christian Center Church. When Stephen passed away, Sheraton was included in his will. Part of what Sheraton received was everything inside Stephen’s house. Among the things in the house were these poems he had written years ago.
