Numerical Methods For Fluid Dynamics Iii

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book is based on the proceedings of the third conference in a series on techniques of numerical analysis in fluid dynamics. It brings together mathematicians, engineers, and other scientists in the field of computational aerodynamics and fluid dynamics to review recent advances in mathematical and computational techniques for modelling fluid flows. The three main themes treated in this volume are numerical algorithms, grid generation techniques, and unsteady flows.

BOOK EXCERPT:

From the reviews of the first edition: "This book is directed to graduate students and research workers interested in the numerical solution of problems of fluid dynamics, primarily those arising in high speed flow. ...The book is well arranged, logically presented and well illustrated. It contains several FORTRAN programms with which students could experiment ... It is a practical book, with emphasis on methods and their implementation. It is an excellent text for the fruitful research area it covers, and is highly recommended". Journal of Fluid Mechanics #1 From the reviews of the second edition: "The arrangement of chapters in the book remains practically the same as that in the first editon (1977), except for the inclusion of Glimm's method ... This book is higly recommended for both graduate students and researchers." Applied Mechanics Reviews #1

Riemann Solvers And Numerical Methods For Fluid Dynamics

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

High resolution upwind and centered methods are a mature generation of computational techniques. They are applicable to a wide range of engineering and scientific disciplines, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) being the most prominent up to now. This textbook gives a comprehensive, coherent and practical presentation of this class of techniques. For its third edition the book has been thoroughly revised to contain new material.

Numerical Methods In Fluid Dynamics

BOOK EXCERPT:

Here is an introduction to numerical methods for partial differential equations with particular reference to those that are of importance in fluid dynamics. The author gives a thorough and rigorous treatment of the techniques, beginning with the classical methods and leading to a discussion of modern developments. For easier reading and use, many of the purely technical results and theorems are given separately from the main body of the text. The presentation is intended for graduate students in applied mathematics, engineering and physical sciences who have a basic knowledge of partial differential equations.

Numerical Methods For Fluid Dynamics

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This scholarly text provides an introduction to the numerical methods used to model partial differential equations, with focus on atmospheric and oceanic flows. The book covers both the essentials of building a numerical model and the more sophisticated techniques that are now available. Finite difference methods, spectral methods, finite element method, flux-corrected methods and TVC schemes are all discussed. Throughout, the author keeps to a middle ground between the theorem-proof formalism of a mathematical text and the highly empirical approach found in some engineering publications. The book establishes a concrete link between theory and practice using an extensive range of test problems to illustrate the theoretically derived properties of various methods. From the reviews: "...the books unquestionable advantage is the clarity and simplicity in presenting virtually all basic ideas and methods of numerical analysis currently actively used in geophysical fluid dynamics." Physics of Atmosphere and Ocean

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book contains the proceedings of an international conference on Numerical Methods for Fluid Dynamics held at the University of Oxford in April 1995. It provides a summary of recent research on the computational aspects of fluid dynamics. It includes contributions from many distinguished mathematicians and engineers and, as always, the standard of papers is high. The main themes of the book are algorithms and algorithmic needs arising from applications, Navier-Stokes on flexible grids, and environmental computational fluid dynamics. Graduate students of numerical analysis will find the up-to-date coverage of research in this book very useful.

Hypersonic Flows For Reentry Problems

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This entry describes the experimental work conducted in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College in connection with Test Problems 1 and 2 of the "Workshop on Hypersonic Flows for Reentry Problems, Part I". These are defined as follows: Test Problem 1 Flow Over a Slender Cone Test Problem 2 Turbulent Base Flow The main requirement of this text is to present the experimental data for direct comparison with the predictions of CFD codes. We have therefore concentrated mainly on a factual statement of measuring techniques and results, together with an assessment of experimental accuracy. Future publications will be devoted to more extensive physical interpretations and discussions of the results. We have produced a large volume of data, some of which were categorised as "MANDATORY" and some as "OPTIONAL" for the purposes of CFD validation. However, only the "MANDATORY" data are presented here, although the other data are available and will be published separately later. 2. EXPERIMENTAL ARRANGEMENT 2. 1 The Test Facility The experiments were conducted in the Imperial College No. 2 Gun tunnel. This facility is a conventional intermittent blowdown tunnel with a contoured Mach 9 (nominal) axisymmetric nozzle fed by a free piston compression heater. The operating condition under which the data contained in this report were obtained is presented in Table 1. Test 2 T (oK) M b.
