BOOK EXCERPT:
This book contains the proceedings of an international conference on Numerical Methods for Fluid Dynamics held at the University of Oxford in April 1995. It provides a summary of recent research on the computational aspects of fluid dynamics. It includes contributions from many distinguished mathematicians and engineers and, as always, the standard of papers is high. The main themes of the book are algorithms and algorithmic needs arising from applications, Navier-Stokes on flexible grids, and environmental computational fluid dynamics. Graduate students of numerical analysis will find the up-to-date coverage of research in this book very useful.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This scholarly text provides an introduction to the numerical methods used to model partial differential equations, with focus on atmospheric and oceanic flows. The book covers both the essentials of building a numerical model and the more sophisticated techniques that are now available. Finite difference methods, spectral methods, finite element method, flux-corrected methods and TVC schemes are all discussed. Throughout, the author keeps to a middle ground between the theorem-proof formalism of a mathematical text and the highly empirical approach found in some engineering publications. The book establishes a concrete link between theory and practice using an extensive range of test problems to illustrate the theoretically derived properties of various methods. From the reviews: "...the books unquestionable advantage is the clarity and simplicity in presenting virtually all basic ideas and methods of numerical analysis currently actively used in geophysical fluid dynamics." BOOK EXCERPT:
This book is based on the proceedings of the third conference in a series on techniques of numerical analysis in fluid dynamics. It brings together mathematicians, engineers, and other scientists in the field of computational aerodynamics and fluid dynamics to review recent advances in mathematical and computational techniques for modelling fluid flows. The three main themes treated in this volume are numerical algorithms, grid generation techniques, and unsteady flows.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Covers the theory and applications of using weak form theory in incompressible fluid-thermal sciences Giving you a solid foundation on the Galerkin finite-element method (FEM), this book promotes the use of optimal modified continuous Galerkin weak form theory to generate discrete approximate solutions to incompressible-thermal Navier-Stokes equations. The book covers the topic comprehensively by introducing formulations, theory and implementation of FEM and various flow formulations. The author first introduces concepts, terminology and methodology related to the topic before covering topics including aerodynamics; the Navier-Stokes Equations; vector field theory implementations and large eddy simulation formulations. Introduces and addresses many different flow models (Navier-Stokes, full-potential, potential, compressible/incompressible) from a unified perspective Focuses on Galerkin methods for CFD beneficial for engineering graduate students and engineering professionals Accompanied by a website with sample applications of the algorithms and example problems and solutions This approach is useful for graduate students in various engineering fields and as well as professional engineers.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The European Conference on Numerical Mathematics and Advanced Applications (ENUMATH) is a series of conferences held every two years to provide a forum for discussion on recent aspects of numerical mathematics and their applications. The ?rst ENUMATH conference was held in Paris (1995), and the series continued by the one in Heidelberg (1997), Jyvaskyla (1999), Ischia (2001), Prague (2003), and Santiago de Compostela (2005). This volume contains a selection of invited plenary lectures, papers presented in minisymposia, and contributed papers of ENUMATH 2007, held in Graz, Austria, September 10–14, 2007. We are happy that so many people have shown their interest in this conference. In addition to the ten invited presentations and the public lecture, we had more than 240 talks in nine minisymposia and ?fty four sessions of contributed talks, and about 316 participants from all over the world, specially from Europe. A total of 98 contributions appear in these proceedings. Topics include theoretical aspects of new numerical techniques and algorithms, as well as to applications in engineering and science. The book will be useful for a wide range of readers, giving them an excellent overview of the most modern methods, techniques, algorithms and results in numerical mathematics, scienti?c computing and their applications. We would like to thank all the participants for the attendance and for their va- ablecontributionsanddiscussionsduringtheconference.Specialthanksgothe m- isymposium organizers, who made a large contribution to the conference, the chair persons, and all speakers.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This volume contains 25 review articles by experts which provide up-to-date information about the recent progress in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Due to the multidisciplinary nature of CFD, it is difficult to keep up with all the important developments in related areas. CFD Review 2010 would therefore be useful to researchers by covering the state-of-the-art in this fast-developing field.
