Lauras daddy told her that, if anything seemed too good to be true, it probably is. When she met and married Walter, she found him to be not only an attractive husband but also a good provider and a father for her son. Walter was active in the church and youth groups. He loved music, and everyone liked him. Laura felt truly blessed. Little did she know that, in five short years, all those dreams would turn to nightmares. It is still difficult for her to realize how much pain and suffering one man could cause to so many. The boys, the children, and Laura will never be the same. They are scarred forever. They deal with it. But they dont want anyone else to have to deal with it. That is why they have put their story in writing to warn you that there are pied pipers in this world. They are good at what they do. That is why they can fool so many trusting souls. The one thing Laura would change is that she would ask questions when things dont make sense. She advises you to ask questions. If you dont, she says that everyone loses.

One of Nevil Shute’s most exciting novels, Pied Piper is the gripping story of one elderly man's daring attempt to rescue a group of children during the Nazi invasion of France. It is the spring of 1940 and John Sidney Howard wants nothing more than to enjoy his fishing holiday in southern France in peace and quiet. However, the Nazi conquest of the Low Countries puts an end to that, and he is asked by friends to take their two children back to England. Crossing France with his young charges seems simple enough at first—until the Germans invade, rendering them fugitives. As Howard struggles to sneak across France, he picks up several more helpless children of various nationalities. They walk for miles in an endless river of refugees, strafed by German planes and hiding in barns at night. By the time Howard and his flock of little ones reach the Channel, his plan of escaping on a fishing boat has become utterly impossible, and in their final confrontation with the invaders, all their lives are at stake.

'They say cometh the hour cometh the man. This means when a situation demands it, the right person - it could be a woman, despite what Sexist Dave would tell you - will appear. This was the hour and in this case the man was a Piper. A Pied Piper.' You'll be enchanted and revolted in equal measure by the host of characters you meet in Russell Brand's Hamelin: the anarchic rats, the arrogant townspeople, sharp-eyed Sam and of course the Pied Piper himself, all brought to life in Brand's inimitable style and with the illustrations of Children's Laureate Chris Riddell.
