The purpose of this study was to explore the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual's (PDM) mental functioning M Axis capacities numbers (2) capacity for relationships and intimacy; (4) affective experience, expression, and communication; (5) defensive patterns and capacities; and (6) capacity to form internal representations and relate them to the research and theoretical literature on the loss of a spouse.
