BOOK EXCERPT:
The problem of the barbarous excess of human suffering is becoming the main question of global Christianity. In an intercultural, globalizing world, how do we envision the wounds of sin and God's saving work of healing, liberation, and redemption? Salvation for the Sinned-Against attempts to address these questions and to suggest a renewed understanding of God's salvation for the victims of sin within the intercultural and globalizing context of the twenty-first century. It offers a thorough treatment of Edward Schillebeeckx, intercultural hermeneutics, and the Korean concept of han, and brings them into dialogue with the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World Gaudium et spes. This book is the first in-depth study of han from a Roman Catholic perspective and the first to attempt to integrate han into Roman Catholic theology in order to begin to envision salvation for the sinned-against creature. Its insights into the experience and message of salvation for the sinned-against (as well as the perpetrators) speak not only to the ecclesial sphere but to the public sphere and beyond. Although written from a Western, North American social location, this is a book that can be useful far beyond this context.

BOOK EXCERPT:
There aren't many serious works of systematic theology which engage with Breaking Bad, The Big Bang Theory, Crazy Heart, theories of capital and positive psychology, as well as the Isenheim Altarpiece and Handel's Messiah. This lively, contemporary study of salvation does precisely that. Christian doctrine cannot simply repeat what has gone before, even as it recognises the value and richness of the traditions Christianity carries with it. Clive Marsh acknowledges this in exploring how doctrine interweaves with life experience and cultural consumption. A Cultural Theology of Salvation considers how salvation is to be understood and articulated now, when the theme of 'redemption' appears outside of Christianity in the arts and popular culture. Marsh also assesses whether contemporary interest in 'happiness' has anything to do with salvation. The first part of the book sets the enquiry in the context of how theology operates as a discipline, and the cultural climate in which theology has to be done. The second part offers a number of case-studies (in art, music, TV, film, positive psychology, and economic life) exploring how the concerns of a doctrine of salvation are addressed directly and indirectly in Western culture. The third part distils the results of the case-studies in formulating a contemporary exposition of salvation, and concludes by showing what this means in practice.

BOOK EXCERPT:
A Christian attorney argues that Bonhoeffer was correct when he said we have developed a "Christianity without Christ" and exchanged Jesus' gospel of costly grace for one of "cheap grace." Del Tondo reviews all the major salvation statements and parables by Jesus. He then compares them to the prevalent doctrines of 'faith alone' which Bonhoeffer called 'cheap grace.' Del Tondo demonstrates that Jesus' doctrines on salvation insisted upon repentance from sin and obedience to His principles, thereby falsifying faith alone doctrine.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book is for Jews and Christians. Jesus said, "Salvation is of the Jews" (John 4:22), and in Revelation 14:12 Jesus tells us that we must 'keep the commandments of God' have the 'faith of Jesus'. The Jewish Jesus told us to keep his teachings, and he said unless we do we will never see eternal life. I will compare the Jewish faith and the Christian faith to see which one best complies with Jesus' teachings. It will then be evident to you that most Christians are not saved according to Jesus' criteria, but 'Biblical Jews' are. I know that's a bold statement. But Jesus said, if we don't keep his teachings, we are not saved. I always thought that salvation was of the Christian faith - but Jesus said 'Salvation is of the Jews', now I know what he meant, and Christians had better take note before Judgment Day. Also read about evangelism Jesus' style, Jesus' parables, saving grace, Mark of the Beast, Seal of God, synagogue of Satan, why the church today is Laodicea and much more.
