This is the story of a boy born in a two-room terrace flat who had quite a normal life but struggled with his own weaknesses until he finally got married, had children, and started traveling. He has written down his experiences as a child in the 1940s, as a teenager in the fifties, and as a young man in the sixties and then wrote about his experiences while traveling the world during his working life, which, when read, suggests he did not have such a normal life after all.

Inspired by her mother’s numerous tales of growing up in Nebraska during the Depression, and as her life as a young bride and as a nurse, Mary Jane began compiling these anecdotes years ago when she began to realize their significance to her family’s history. With the birth of nieces and nephews and the death of her beloved mother came the realization that life does not last forever and the imperative to preserve these family treasures became even greater. With generous and enthusiastic contributions of photos, facts, details and insights, family members enhanced these stories and provided depth and luster to this glimpse into an American family descended from immigrants. Although it is typical in many ways, this family is unique – as perhaps all families are unique – and the author’s gratitude to her parents, her sister and each of her relatives is boundless.

Rema R. Kenton started writing during her pre-teen years when she was a freshman in high school. She spent more time writing poems and stories during her post high school and post college years. She worked with children in clubs, church and school. She also worked with the Pathfinder Club where she was leader for more than a decade. She has written Meet Mindy the Betta Fish, The Praying Mantis and the Birds, Poems for Your Inspiration among other books. She currently works with fi fth graders at Emmanuel Children’s Mission and teaches Art to fi fth through eighth grade. She was born in Portland, Jamaica, West Indies: but now resides in Mount Vernon, New York.

About the Author Curtis Malcolm Monroe Sr. was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, in 1951. He spent much of his youth living in an old shanty house with his single mother and five siblings. He and his siblings would chop wood for heat, eat wild game they caught for their mother to cook, and worked in the cotton fields. When she received enough money, his mother moved their family to a new town, and Monroe went on to graduate from Carver High School, class of 1970, the last class of all Black students. He and his brother went on to join the USAS during the Vietnam War. After the military, Monrow was married and had two sons. After his divorce, he went back to school. Now retired, he spends most of his time writing poems, short stories, and creating art.

This is the story of faith. Education, background and statusof this man had no power over his faith. His teachings werebased on love and this love is the Lord Himself. The journeyof this man was lead and guided by God's "Word" and every stepof it whether easy nor diffi cult. His journey of life included his was purposeful. Only this purpose was realized when he was gone. Hislegacy lived and continues to live. His relationship with God was abstract and could not be understood easily by earthly human beings. Fame, popularity, riches did not guide his life but to him evangelism was all what love and life is about. Sharing the "Word" of God with the people. To him being God's child was everything.

Dreadful nightmares and panic attacks were the birth pangs of the author's book... She had survived the third and almost successful attempt on her life by her husband, so in a sudden rush of courage brought on by the knowledge that if she did not leave immediately he would definitely kill her she fled him in Sri Lanka to arrive in San Francisco in the clothes she stood up in a few dollars in her pocket and very near to complete nervous collapse. She made her way to Santa Cruz where the owner of a small B&B rescued her with long walks and lots of good advice but three years later the excruciating nightmares and panic attacks still persisted so she took her friends advice to put it all down on paper...in other words... " externalize it m'dear and then it will become just another bad dream." Ignoring the pun she did just that but when she put pen to paper there was the clear voice of a little girl in her mind who wanted to take her to a special time and place if she wanted to confront her worst fears...

Hi, my name is Kayla Lynn Waterman. I am thirty-one years old. I was born in Westfield, New York, and raised in Jamestown, New York. I am married to a wonderful husband, and he is also my best friend. We have six wonderful girls, ages five to fourteen years old. They are my life. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them. I began writing about my life through all the obstacles our family has been throughout many years. One of our daughters had been in and out of the hospital, and with all the memories and separation, it’s been built up inside. This is for me to let people know that life is never easy, but never give up as well even if you want to. I have a best friend, and she’s also my sister. Her name is Katricia Nutting. Without her bringing me up and being there for me, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
