At the beginning of October Brother Lee traveled to Taipei, Taiwan, and ministered there until the first week of December. During this period he visited Singapore and Manila, Philippines, for about one week. The contents of this volume are divided into six sections, as follows: 1. This book presents a comprehensive account of the historical development of the Charismatic Movement in Taiwan, placing it within the context of Taiwan’s religious and political history. Judith C. P. Lin unearths invaluable sources of the Japan Apostolic Mission, the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International Formosa Chapter, and Jean Stone Willans’ short stay in Taiwan in 1968. Lin describes and analyzes how the efforts of 1970s charismatic missionaries in Taiwan—including Pearl Young, Nicholas Krushnisky, Donald Dale, Allen J. Swanson, and Ross Paterson—shaped the theological convictions of later Taiwanese charismatic leaders. She also explores significant developments in the Taiwanese Church which contributed to the gradual and widespread recognition of the Charismatic Movement in Taiwan from 1980 to 1995. Lin offers a thorough treatment of history, reconfigures historiography from a Taiwanese perspective, and challenges the academic circle to take seriously the “Taiwanese consciousness” when engaging Taiwan’s history.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1985, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from January 3 through September 21, 1985. In 1985 Brother Lee spoke fifty-five messages that were published in The Conclusion of the New Testament. These Life-study messages are not included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee. In early January Brother Lee returned to Anaheim, California, from Irving, Texas. He visited Irvine, California, on January 5, and then returned to Anaheim before traveling to Taipei, Taiwan, a few days later. He returned to Anaheim near the beginning of March and remained there until the beginning of April, at which time he went again to Taipei for about two months. At the beginning of June he returned to Anaheim and, except for a brief visit to Berkeley, California, at the end of August, he remained in Anaheim until the end of September. The contents of this volume are divided into five sections, as follows: 1. Five messages given in Anaheim, California, in various meetings with elders and responsible brothers on January 3 through September 21. These messages are included in this volume under the title Principles for Practicing the New Way. 2. A message given in Irvine, California, to Chinese-speaking saints and gospel friends on January 5. This message was translated into English and is included in this volume under the title The Church Life Being the Highest Social Life. 3. Twelve messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, on January 14 through 19. These messages were previously published in Chinese and English in a book entitled Crucial Words of Leading in the Lord's Recovery, Book 4: The Increase and Spread of the Church. They are included in this volume under the same title. 4. Eighteen messages given in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on February 4 through May 9. These messages were previously published in Chinese and English in a book entitled Crucial Words of Leading in the Lord's Recovery, Book 5: Concerning Various Aspects of Church Service. They are included in this volume under the same title. 5. Fourteen messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, on January 10 through April 12. Twelve of the messages were previously published in Chinese and English in a book entitled Crucial Words of Leading in the Lord's Recovery, Book 6: Everyone Functioning for the Increase of the Church. They are included in this volume under the same title. In the course of compiling The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1985, two new messages were identified in this series and were added to the original twelve.

This two-volume publication, Lessons on the Eldership, is composed of outlines and excerpts compiled from the ministry of Witness Lee and Watchman Nee. They are intended to be used by mature workers for the training of the elders and responsible brothers among the churches in the hope that these brothers will be perfected to labor fruitfully in the carrying out of God’s economy for the fulfillment of His purpose through the churches.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1985, volume 2, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from January 6 through September 22, 1985. These messages were previously published in Chinese and English in a five-chapter standalone book entitled On Home Meetings. The contents of this book were taken primarily from outlines and handwritten notes. After the publication of this book in 1986, audio recordings were located that provided a fuller record of the content of Brother Lee's speaking. The edited transcripts of these recordings are included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1985, volume 1, as chapters 10 through 14 in the section entitled Crucial Words of Leading in the Lord's Recovery, Book 6: Everyone Functioning for the Increase of the Church. These updated chapters replace the contents in the previously published edition of On Home Meetings. Therefore, the chapters printed in The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1985, volume 1, are not printed in this volume. 5. Twenty messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, on April 8 through May 3. These messages were previously published in Chinese and English in a book entitled The Vision, Living, and Work of the Lord's Serving Ones. They are included in this volume under the same title. 6. Fourteen messages given in Taipei and Taichung, Taiwan, and Anaheim, California, on April 16 through July 8. These messages were previously published in Chinese and English in a thirteen-chapter book entitled The Propagation of the Gospel and the Administration of the Church. They are included in this volume under the same title. 7. A message given in Taipei, Taiwan, on April 18. This message was translated from Chinese and is included in this volume under the title Fellowship with Elders and Co-workers in Taipei.

The contents of this volume are divided into five sections, as follows: 1. Twelve messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, on October 22 through December 6, 1985. These messages were previously published in Chinese and English under the title Vessels Useful to the Lord. They are included in this volume under the same title. 2. In this issue we will continue four lines of ministry. The first line--The History of the Lord's Recovery--contains chapters 10 through 13 of Fellowship concerning the Urgent Need of the Vital Groups, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1991–1992. These chapters cover the building up of the vital groups, the need for one accord, prayer, and the release of the Spirit for blending, and exercising our spirit with prayer for the release of the Holy Spirit and for participation in the outpouring of the Spirit as power from on high for the dynamic impact in preaching the gospel and ministering Christ to others. The second line--Words for New Believers--contains chapters 5 through 8 of Crucial Truths in the Holy Scriptures, Volume 1, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1932–1949. These chapters cover topics related to repentance and believing, forgiveness, cleansing, and sanctification. The third line--Maturing in Life--contains chapters 9 and 10 of The Way to Practice the Lord's Present Move, which are in volume 5 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1985. These chapters speak of how to be watchful in life and faithful in service. The line then continues with chapters 1 and 2 of a new book, Reward and Punishment, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1955. These chapters cover the nature and function of the kingdom reward and God's thought concerning the kingdom reward. The fourth line--The High Peak of the Divine Revelation--continues with chapters 11 through 13 of The History of God in His Union with Man, which are in volume 4 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1991–1992. These chapters focus on God's history in time from the creation of the universe to the final judgment at the great white throne. The line then continues with chapter 1 of a new book, God's New Testament Economy, which is in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1984. This chapter contains an introductory word concerning God's economy, which is His plan to dispense Himself into redeemed humanity.

The third line--Maturing in Life--contains chapters 1 through 4 of The Way to Practice the Lord's Present Move, which are in volume 5 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1985. These chapters speak of the need of the present world, the divine truths in the Lord's recovery, and the blessing on the Lord's recovery, and of going by rising up by being filled with the consummated Spirit essentially and economically. They further speak of the Word and the Spirit for the meetings and of our need to be experienced in the Word and filled with the Spirit for the increase and the meetings. The fourth line--The High Peak of the Divine Revelation--continues with chapters 3 through 6 of The History of God in His Union with Man, which are in volume 4 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1991–1992. These chapters focus on God's history in time through His restoration of the judged universe and creation of man, through His saving of man from his fall, through His working on His saints from Abel to Noah and His judging of the world from Cain to Babel, and through His working on His elect from Abraham to Joseph.
