BOOK EXCERPT:
Eddie Porter, a professional gambler, arrived at the village of Fallston, North Carolina in 1930 with the rarest of commodities: money. He was there to investigate the prospect of buying a sprawling, run down tobacco farm. Eddie knew, at once, that he has found the place he had long been seeking. It was sound rather than site that told Eddie this. The people of Fallston had the exact same accent and voice inflections of the man he was seeking. It has taken Eddie a dozen years to find this place. After a week in Fallston, Eddie calmly bet the bulk of his fortune and the last ten years of his life on Fallston. In June of 1940, Eddie Porter was found murdered in his home in Fallston.Ten year old Jubal Scott was the first to reach the scene. Jubal caught a glimpse of Eddies killer, before he, too was knocked unconscious and left for dead. Soon, the Sheriff of Green County, Jubals father Mason Scott and Eddie Porters daughter join forces to hunt for his killer. Months of sleuthing later, the trio have only a budding romance between Monica Porter and Mason Scott to show for their efforts. Tensions mount with each attempt on Jubals life. Finally, Monica discovers a letter from her father naming John Lofton, a local, as the man who killed his friend in France during World War I. Soon after Eddies murder, Lofton is the victim of an apparent suicide. Monica Porters says, Case Closed! Mason Scott, however, remains unconvinced. The case reaches an exciting climax when Jubal Scott recognizes the real killers picture in a newspaper. Discover how Eddie Porters final corageous act of love changed his vengeful quest into a remarkable legacy of love.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book contains many practical tips for managers wishing to become leaders. The difference between the two is that managers control the business process whilst leaders manage change. The author takes us on a progressive journey of lessons learnt as he develops his career from a technical designer to achieving senior international management positions. He provides insight into how to break down the barriers in leading multi-cultural, multi-site organizations and developing them into high performing teams. He strongly agrees with Ray Kroc of McDonald`s view “That none of us is as good as all of us.” He has spent over thirty five years in the construction industry, mainly in the oil and gas sectors and successfully led green field start-ups, joint ventures and business turnarounds. From the stormy waters of the North Sea to the head-hunting Iban [E-ban] tribesmen of Borneo the author leads us through an interesting series of adventures and the learning opportunity in his quest for success.

BOOK EXCERPT:
In October 1967, eighteen-year-old Patrick Bradley enlisted in the US Army and was later deployed to Vietnam to map mobile POW camps to determine a pattern for rescuing prisoners. Combat left him physically and psychologically wounded, as it does many veterans, and Bradley struggled to adjust when he returned home. He seemed destined for military prison after an altercation in which he broke a superior officer's jaw, but his life changed forever when a psychiatrist recommended a unique path for healing. Thanks to a program sponsored by the Canadian government, Bradley traveled to Canada to study bald eagles and document their behavior. He found himself recovering while living alone in the wild with minimal supplies or human contact. At the same time, his work was paving the way for groundbreaking research, including the discovery of a link between the use of the pesticide DDT and a decrease in southern bald eagle populations. Later, he forged a successful career training and managing wild animals and committed himself to helping other wounded warriors by cofounding the Avian Veteran Alliance, a nonprofit that pairs veterans suffering from PTSD and physical injuries with injured birds of prey. The Eagle on My Arm tells Bradley's inspirational story for the first time. This moving account reveals how a soldier became a dedicated healer, using his years of study and solitude to face his demons and turn his pain into a lifelong passion for helping others.
