The Social Science of the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Call to Action for Researchers draws on theories derived from the social sciences to address the multitude of questions raised by the COVID-19 pandemic and to inspire a future generation of researchers. The book is designed to help promote recovery from the pandemic, to minimize the negative effects of similar events in the future, and to inform social science research going forward.

International trade is highly affected by mycotoxin contaminations, which result in an annual 5% to 10% loss of global crop production. In the last decade, the mycotoxin scenario has been complicated by the progressive understanding—alongside emerging mycotoxins—of the parallel presence of modified (masked and conjugated) forms, in addition to the previously free known ones. The present Toxins Special Issue presents original research papers and reviews that deal with the fates of all these forms of mycotoxins with respect to aspects that cover traditional and industrial food processing, yearly grain campaign peculiar conditions and management, novel analytical solutions, consumer exposure, and biomarker-assessment directions. It gives a taste of an exciting scientific field that has several implications for our daily life because (i) it covers our diet practically and from every point of view, (ii) it intersects with our culinary uses and customs, but also industrial production processes, and (iii) it involves a careful evaluation of costs and benefits and a constant and continuous improvement of mycotoxin mitigation strategies.

The worldwide COVID health crisis has affected virtually every aspect of daily life, namely the conditions in which we are born, grow, learn, work, and age. For the last three years, for instance, we have engaged in social distancing, remote meetups and seemingly endless Zoom calls. We have also changed how we view healthcare, with many increasing their use of telemedicine. Many have also abandoned city living for a more comfortable life in suburban, peri-rural and rural environments, with greater access to trees and parkland. Travel has been significantly impacted-disrupting existing social networks but also potentially deepening more localized social networks. For some, these changes were only in initial lockdown period(s); for others, these changes may be ongoing. The idea for our book emerged from overwhelming evidence that the pandemic intersects with nearly every social determinant of population health and aggravating existing inequalities in social conditions and health outcomes"--

Undoubtedly, Covid-19 caused major disruptions in several realms of human life. Not least affected is higher education. New modes of learning, teaching and research had to be introduced to avoid a total shutdown of this crucial function of society. Educational institutions around the world had to devise ways and means to carry on with their core business of teaching, learning and research that could not be delayed due to the restrictions imposed by Covid-19. The arrival of this timely compendium makes its mark in this context. Focusing on the Social Sciences, the contributions in this volume show how an unexpected eventuality of a social situation can be handled and how teaching, learning and research are managed in the new situation. Through creative, innovative and transformative pedagogical approaches, academics are able to handle the situation quite successfully. The models and the examples presented in the book have applications in both pandemic and post-pandemic contexts. Although evidence is drawn from a single higher learning institution in South Africa, the findings have significance in other contexts.

This is an open access book. Still related to the big theme of reinforcement the SDG’s at the previous conference, we try to invite academics and researchers in the world to participate in the 3rd Borobudur International Symposium 2021 (3rd BIS 2021). As we know, The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on all 17 SDGs have demonstrated that what began as a health catastrophe swiftly transformed into a human and socioeconomic crisis. In September 2019, the UN Secretary-General urged all sectors of society to mobilize for a decade of action on three fronts: global action to ensure increased leadership, increased resources, and smarter solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals; local action to embed the necessary transitions into governments’ policies, budgets, institutions, and regulatory frameworks; and international action to ensure greater leadership, increased resources, and smarter solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals. Especially in 3rd BIS 2021, we brought up “Decade of Action towards Environmental Issues: Advancing the Innovation to Recover our Planet” as main theme. This is an open access book. With the progress of social civilization, social science and its research are becoming more and more important. Theoretically and practically, the study of social phenomena and social problems and the development of prosperous social sciences are the eternal themes of human beings. At present, social science research and its results can hardly meet the needs of social development, especially the unscientific evaluation of social science results, which has aroused great concern from all walks of life, and has produced dirt and questions on social science, thus affecting the proper development of social science. Max Weber once said that "the most important function of social science in modern times is to keep people "clear-headed" and to resist the delusions of "prophetic legislators". " Humanities and arts are the process of perceiving, realizing, thinking, manipulating, and expressing objective or subjective objects through capturing and excavating, feeling and analyzing, integrating and applying, or displaying the stage results in the form obtained through feeling (seeing, hearing, smelling, touching). The social sciences and humanities and arts contain content that will directly affect our lives and the way society functions. And by reacting to today's increasingly intricate problems and situations through systematic and professional discussions, they will further contribute to the improvement of institutions and the development of society. By thinking about issues and looking at problems and the world from different perspectives by putting the two together, it may be possible to have more comprehensive, appropriate, and better responses; for example, the development of laws requires a deeper understanding of the environment in which they are implemented; international trade requires a certain understanding of the customs of different countries; and the development of tax and economic policies requires a certain understanding of the population, consumer demand, etc.
